Historical Note

The Hattie C. Luce (Schooner) was built by Carleton, Norwood & Co. in Rockport, ME in 1892. She was captained notably by Forrest K. Torrey (1892-1894), Lucien P. Heal [later Heald] (1900-1903), F.H. Cooper (1906-1909), and M.J. Marston (1909-1911). The vessel was struck by the John H. Buttrick (Schooner) in January 1903, and Captain Heal drowned. The schooner survived the incident, but was later wrecked on February 16, 1912 while on a voyage from New York to San Juan. The crew was rescued by Ocland (Steamer).
