Historical Note

The Moses Wheeler (Ship) was built at Boston in 1850. The ship sailed for Boston-based firm Bates & Co., and undertook voyages to Boston, Melbourne, Wales, Calcutta, Sri Lanka, and Rio de Janeiro. The ship was captained by James B. King (1852), William Collagan (1853), John Simpson (1855-56), and James T. Whitman (1861). The ship was condemned at Rio de Janeiro in December of 1861.
