Biography

The Alfonso d'Albuquerque (Ship) was previously named Carrington, but was renamed due to war risk in 1863, and flown under the Portuguese flag rather than American. After the ship arrived in Cuba, its name was changed again to Douglas in 1864, and it was sold. Under its original name, the ship was built in Warren, Rhode Island in 1847.
