Historical Note

The Wandering Jew (Ship) was built in 1877 by Carleton, Norwood & Co. in Rockport, ME, and was the second ship of its name built by the firm. The ship sailed under Captain D.C. Nichols from 1889-1895. On October 30, 1895, the ship caught fire while at anchor in the harbor of Hong Kong while heavily loaded for New York.
