Biographical Note

Adam Wallace Thaxter, Jr. was born in Norfolk County, MA on January 1, 1807. He worked as a clerk for Nathan Bridge & Co.; after Bridge's death, he entered a co-partnership with John D. Bates to run the renamed firm Bates & Co. Thaxter and Bates remained co-partners until approximately 1860-1861, when correspondence between the two indicates a separation. Thaxter died a year later in Boston, MA on May 23, 1862.
