Scope and Content Note
The William Howe Green papers contain a mix of materials relating to Green's life, including journals and photographs. Included in the collection is Green's memoir, which describes most of his life. The memoir provides the reader with a glimpse into the weaving industry in England and America in the nineteenth century and an emigrant's journey to America. Also included in this collection is a journal that details Green's journey of 1,700 miles to recover the body of his adopted son, who had died during one of the battles of the Civil War. There are notes about a journey to Scotland, two carte de visite photographs of Green's parents, and five cabinet cards.
