Scope and Contents

Series I. Pickering Dodge (1778-1833) Papers include the ships' papers, business correspondence, and family papers of merchant and ship owner, Pickering Dodge. The series is arranged into two subseries. Subseries A. Business Papers include ships' papers and a cargo book for the ships Boston Packet and Venus, along with the sloops Hero and Betsy. Correspondence includes two letters from Dodge to Joshua Greenleaf. Subseries B. Family Papers include a contract between Joshua Dodge and William H. Moody, along with estate papers for Israel Dodge and Pickering Dodge. Pickering's estate papers consist of a last will and testament, an inventory of his estate, and two documents from the Probate Court of Salem, Massachusetts attesting to the will's validity.
