Subseries II. Correspondence by Date contains correspondence created by or sent to Carleton, Norwood & Co., excluding the firm's most prolific correspondents included in Subseries I. Materials are arranged with letter books created by Carleton, Norwood & Co. first; correspondence created by other parties follow, with all materials arranged chronologically.

While Subseries I provides insight into specific business relationships, Subseries II offers a broader view of the firm's daily activities and their connections with business partners and the surrounding community. The letters in this subseries regularly document transactions with contractors and firms purchasing "Jacobs" lime, Carleton, Norwood & Co.'s purchases of lumber and nails for ships, and exchanges with ships' captains and potential captains.

Both the company and the Carleton family were closely connected to local community life. A particular highlight of this subseries are letters documenting the company's involvement with several construction projects in the Camden and Rockport area. Between 1891-1892, the firm built a brick and granite business block and a schoolhouse; S.D. Carleton also furnished a building for Camden Savings Bank, which he served as a trustee. Letters from these years include correspondence with various contractors related to these projects; Subseries I also includes letters from architects E.K. and W.E. Blaikie about the brick and granite block.
