Henry Cabot Lodge (1850-1924) was born on May 12, 1850 in Beverly, Massachusetts to John Ellerton Lodge and Anna Cabot. He graduated from Harvard University in 1871; Harvard Law School in 1874; and was admitted to the bar in 1875. He earned one of the first Ph.D. degrees in political science from Harvard University in 1876. On June 30, 1871, Lodge married Anna Cabot Mills Davis (1851-1915) and the couple had three children: Constance Davis (b. 1872); George Cabot (1873-1909); and John Ellerton (1878-1942). Lodge's political career included serving in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1880 to 1881; representing Massachusetts in the United States House of Representatives from 1887 to 1893; and serving as Senator from Massachusetts from 1893-1924. He was also the author of many historical, biographical, and political works including Story of the Revolution and The Senate and the League of Nations. He died in Cambridge, Massachusetts on November 9, 1924 and was interred at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.

Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. (1902-1985) was born in Nahant, Massachusetts on July 5, 1902 to George Cabot Lodge and Mathilda F. Davis. He graduated from Harvard University in 1924 and worked in the newspaper industry until he was elected to the Massachusetts State House of Representatives in 1933. He married Emily Ester Sears (1905-1992) on July 1, 1926 and the couple had two children, George Cabot, Jr. (1927-) and Henry Sears (1930-). Lodge was elected to the United States Senate in 1936 and served until 1944 when he resigned to go on active duty in the United States Army during World War II. He was elected again to the Senate in 1947 and served until 1953 when he failed to win re-election. He was appointed United States Ambassador to the United Nations in 1953 by President Eisenhower, he served in this position until 1960 when he left to run for Vice President on the Republican ticket headed by Richard Nixon. After losing the election, Lodge was appointed United States Ambassador to South Vietnam, a position he held from 1963 to 1968. He served as United States Ambassador to West Germany from 1968 to 1969, and later in his career, he occasionally served as envoy to the Holy See from 1970 to 1977. He died on February 27, 1985 in Beverly, Massachusetts and was interred in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
