Historical Sketch

The Salem Light Infantry Veteran Association was organized in Salem, Massachusetts on October 4, 1862. The objective of the association was to support and provide relief for the members of the Salem Light Infantry and their families, and to perpetuate a full record of the history of the company. When the organization was founded, all past and present members of the Salem Light Infantry were eligible for membership. There was a board of officers, elected by the members, and by-laws that outlined the rules of the organization. Veterans participated in marches and parades, attended meetings, assemblies, and special events, all in an effort to continue the history and traditions of the Salem Light Infantry.
