William Kent Papers, 1771-1866

 Collection
Identifier: MH 134

Scope and Content Note

The William Kent papers contain ships papers from vessels that Kent sailed on, and correspondence. This collection has been divided into two series.

Series I. Ships’ Papers contain papers from vessels that William Kent sailed on; the majority of which he was captain or master. These papers contain bills of lading, receipts, insurance policies, petitions, appeals, and custom permits.

Series II. Correspondence contains correspondence about the ship Witch of the Wave, in addition to correspondence from John Bertram to T. C. Wales. It is unclear what connection Bertram or Wales have to Kent, as the correspondence is dated later than the ships’ papers with Kent’s name on them.
