Scope and Content Note
Dr. Edward Brooks Peirson Papers consist of his account books which contain patient medical records and payments. With each entry Peirson lists the patient's address and occupation. Of special interest is Volume 16 which describes symptoms, treatments administered, and operations performed. The collection also includes a medical record book for his son, Edward L. Peirson (1863-1935).

Biographical Sketch
Dr. Edward Brooks Peirson was born on January 22, 1820 in Salem, Massachusetts, to Dr. Abel Lawrence Peirson (1794-1853) and Harriet Lawrence (1793-1870). He graduated from Harvard College in 1840 and Harvard Medical School in 1844. He was a physician and president of the Essex Southern District Medical Society. He was also president of the board of The Salem Leg Company. Dr. Peirson volunteered his services to assist the wounded at Fredericksburg, Virginia, after the Battle of the Wilderness.
He married Catherine Pickman Saltonstall (1823-1852) in 1846; they had no children. In 1856 he married Ellen Elizabeth Perry (1828-1903). They had five children: Kathrine, Margaret Daisy White, Eleanor Perry, Edward Lawrence, and Horatio Perry. He died on November 18, 1874.
