Scope and Content Note

The Samuel A. Goodhue collection contains correspondence from Goodhue to his brother and other family members. Included within some of the correspondence are daily bulletins from Goodhue's work, a passenger list from 1918, and some photographs. Included in a letter to Goodhue's brother, "Bert", dated July 23, 1920, was a pilot chart, which can be located in the flat file. The materials have been arranged chronologically.

Biographical Sketch

Samuel A. Goodhue was from Salem, Massachusetts. During World War I he served in the United States Shipping Board's Emergency Fleet Corporation in the Division of Operations, part of the Army Transport Service. After the war, Goodhue continued to work on vessels. He served on board the S. S. Muscatine in 1918 as a quartermaster agent; on the S. S. Lake Grama in 1919; the U. S. S. Western Spirit in 1919 and the S. S. Lake Crescent also in 1919 which sailed in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean; the S. S. City of Weatherford in 1920; and the S. S. Lake Flournoy in 1921. In 1922 he was working for Trosdal, Plant and Lafonta, steamship agents and ship brokers in New Orleans, Louisiana.
