Scope and Content Note
The Gould Family Papers contains financial, legal, and civic papers for family members living in Boxford and Topsfield. It has been organized into two series.
Series I. Gould Family Papers includes a volume of weaving and farming accounts of John Gould (1662-1724) and of tailoring accounts of Daniel Gould (1753-1842) and his wife, Mary (Booth) Gould (1751-1785). The papers of Andrew Gould (1805-1896) document his lumber, farming, and estate settlement activities. Andrew's 1847-1854 account books and Charles Gould's (1814-1896) account book (B1 F8) record entries with Andrew's general store, Kimball & Gould. Of note in the miscellaneous Gould papers is an 1823 diary and expense account for an unidentified Gould's trip from North Carolina. Other papers include financial papers for Abigail and Amos A. Gould and an 1861 disability certificate for Edward O. Gould. It is unclear which Samuel Gould the papers in Box 1 Folder 6 pertain to; they could have belonged to Samuel Gould (1759-1837) or his son, Samuel Lamson Gould (1785-1860).
Series II. Miscellaneous Papers includes a shoemaking account book of Andrew Gould's son-in-law, Thomas W. Perley; deeds for the Kimball family of Boxford; a series of nursery rhymes and games; First Parish Church of Boxford minutes and financial records; an 1843 planting record for a [Salem?] garden; list of Asa Pingree's real estate holdings; Boxford and Topsfield selectmen records; a resignation letter of George Rogers, instructor of the North Writing School, Newburyport; a description of strategic games "Kriegs spiel"; and miscellaneous deeds, correspondence, and financial papers of Topsfield and Boxford residents.
