Scope and Content Note

The Oliver Briard Papers contain the correspondence of this Portsmouth, New Hampshire merchant. The bulk of the papers consist of family letters sent to Mr. Briard from his family: older brothers William and John; John's wife Catherine; nephew, William; and brother-in-law William Appleton. Letters from John and Catherine deal primarily with finances and John's request that Oliver take particular care of Catherine while he is at sea.
