This collection contains papers of three notary publics of Gloucester, James Porter, Peter Coffin, and John Rogers, arranged chronologically. The papers deal with marine protests in Gloucester. Many different individuals and ships are listed in this collection. Ship owners included are Gideon Coggeshall, John Whiteon, John McKean, Andrew Haraden, William Hooper, Jeremiah Littlefield, Benjamin Foster, Timothy Ropes, Ezra Day, James Bartlett, Samuel P. Stinson, and Andrew Davis. Vessels mentioned are the schooners Betsey, Defiance, Polly, Martin, Resolution, George, Susanna, and Treaty. Brigs Dolphin, Polly, and Hannah are represented as well as the sloop Sally.
