Scope and Contents

The Peterson family papers inlcude bills, invoices, receipts, correspondence, and miscellaneous items for members of the Peterson family. The bills, invoices, and receipts include household and business items, and have been arranged by individuals; however, it was not possible to identify Payson Sr.'s finances from Payson Jr.'s. The collection also includes school report cards for Payson Sr.'s children.

Biographical / Historical

Payson W. Peterson was born in 1796. He married Priscilla Patterson, the daughter of John and Hannah (Webb) Patterson, and they lived in Salem, Massachusetts. Their children included: Priscilla; Payson W.; Hannah W.; William; Sarah; John; and Andrew G.(1844-) (Ancestry, Massachusetts, U.S., State Census).

Andrew Peterson was born in 1794. He worked as a laborer until his death in 1842 (Ancestry, Massachusetts, U.S., Town and Vital Records).

Payson W. Peterson was born in 1827, in Salem, Massachusetts, to Payson and Priscilla Peterson. Payson Jr. worked as a currier. In 1856, he married Martha P. Bigelow (1825-) (Ancestry, Massachusetts, U.S., Marriage Records). Sometime before 1872, they moved to Neosho, Wisconsin. Their children included: Mary B.; Payson Weld; Pearl; and Sarah L (Ancestry, Wisconsin, U.S., State Censuses). They later moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
