169 photographic portraits (mostly unidentified, but taken by Essex County photographers), one photograph of an unidentified crowd scene, and one photograph of an unidentified street. There are 103 carte-de-visite, 57 cabinet cards, three gelatin prints, and 43 are mounted on paperboard. Some of the photographers are identified: Bousely (Salem); Andrew B. Cross (Salem); Jones (Salem); J. W. & J. S. Moulton (Salem); A. H. Smith (Salem); Smith & Bousely (Salem), Taylor & Preston (Salem), Hazelton and Bartlett (Salem); G. C. Mears (Gloucester); and Walter Gardner (Gloucester).
