Biographical / Historical
The Pingree Family was a prominent Essex County family with roots dating back to the early 17th century. The Pingree Family Genealogy chiefly contains material related to the branch of the family started by David Pingree (1795-1863), a prominent merchant and land magnate who operated out of Salem, Massachusetts in the 19th century. Pingree married Anna Maria Kimball (1804-1893) of the Kimball and Knight Families in 1825. They had four children who lived to adulthood: Thomas Perkins Pingree (1830-1876); Annar Pingree (1839-1911); David Pingree (1841-1932); and Ann Maria Pingree (1846-1927). Anna Maria married Stephen G. Wheatland of Salem’s Wheatland family in 1869. The ensuing Wheatland branch of the family served as the managers for the land interests of the family following David Pingree’s death in 1932.
