Scope and Contents

Artificial collection of model shipbuilding notes from various sources. Includes ship plans, correspondence, and miscellaneous notes. One volume includes excerpts of correspondence between Stephen C. Rowan and Howard Irving Chapelle and between Rowan and M. V. Brewington (folder 4). Letters discuss ship dimensions of various types of schooners. Second volume provides drawings and dimensions of sail riggings (folder 5). Third volume includes notes for two ships - John H. Orr and Lydia E. Middleton (folder 1).

Provenance

Mrs. Clarkson A. Cranmer donated the materials in folders 1 through 3 on October 17, 1955, to the Peabody Museum of Salem (Acc 13,588). Charles G. Davis correspondence, dated 1927 to 1929, in folder 4, was donated by Carola Paine Womser on January 8, 1959, to the Peabody Museum of Salem (Acc 14,664). Notes about Jackson's ship lines, in folder 5, were donated by the Bostonian Society on February 6, 1957, to the Peabody Museum of Salem (Acc 14,075).
