Scope and Contents

This collection contains two of Thomas Bartlett’s account books, one of Abiel Somberby’s account books, and an account book of an unidentified tanner and shoemaker. There is also a will of Rebecca Wallis, a document reporting that the will was fraudulent, and records of the births of Abiel Somerby’s children.

Biographical / Historical

Thomas Bartlett was a leather tanner and shoemaker from Newbury, Massachusetts.

Abiel Somerby (1702-1768) was a leather tanner and shoemaker from Newbury, Massachusetts. (Ancestry). He married Mary Noyes on April 20, 1724, and they had seven children. (Ancestry).

It is unclear how these men were connected besides being in the same line of work in the area.
