Series I. Photographic Material includes photos, negatives, slides, and some copies. They cover a wide range of topics, including buildings, people, and landscapes. Many of the pictures are not originals, but are pictures or copies of pictures from personal collections. Groups of pictures taken at the same time are grouped together in folders. The folder titles are taken from the original inventory of the collection.

The 23rd Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Association records include meeting minutes, correspondence, reunion programs and invitations, scrapbooks, photographs, and newspaper clippings created and collected by elected officers and members of the 23rd Regiment Association. The collection has been arranged into three series.

Series III. Relatives' Papers contain correspondence, legal, and financial papers of various Pickman family members. Of special note are the naturalization papers of Benjamin Pickman from 1787, the correspondence to Benjamin Pickman's wife, and a journal of Edward M. Pickman's trip to Spain in 1915.

SERIES II. Mary K. Wheatland Personal Papers consists of correspondence and ephemera relating to her parents, children, grandchildren, and identified persons. This series also includes drafts and ephemera related to the Salem Thread & Needle Sewing Circle’s production of a play entitled “Shades of the House of Seven Gables” and a brief biography of her husband. This series is arranged chronologically.

Series XII. Financial includes a meticulous record of Morse's financial accounts. In the 1868 account book Morse kept a thorough register of where he delivered lectures and the remuneration received during the period 1861 to 1870. This series also provides information on purchases made by Morse in Japan for the Peabody Museum, as well as for his private collection of oriental pottery. Much of this series is recorded in Japanese.
