Abstract

The collection of bound volumes of Newburyport Federal Custom House Records at the Peabody Essex Museum’s Phillips Library spans the entire 121 years of the existence of the Newburyport Federal Customs District (1789-1910).

Scope and Contents This collection contains four journals of voyages Goodell kept while onboard the ship Integrity, and a copy of Commercial Regulations in Java and Madura, translated from Dutch. The first journal documents the Integrity's journey from New York towards India, with stops in Penang and Sumatra, and includes sketches of the local topography; extra pages have been sewn into this book.
